I have sadly been laid up with a bad back for the last three weeks, the final week being spent at home on my doctor’s recommendation. Astonishingly painful, but a good excuse to be at home for a week, during which I finished the transformation of my shed into an office.
Yes! I have an office! Of my very own!
Ahem. Sorry. Bit excited about it.
Many thanks to Steve of TABS Electrical. Uckfield, for doing a fantastic job of the wiring. Not only did he do a good job, he was punctual, friendly and reasonably priced. And anticipated my needs without me asking (ie. compensating for me blowing the place up by overloading all the sockets with gadgets).
The final hiccup was setting up wireless broadband, which had me foxed for a while. Fortunately, a friend of mine (hi, Graham!) specialises in networks for offices, and he sorted me out in a matter of minutes, leaving me to feel like a total n00b, if you will excuse my leet.
So 'tis done, apart from a lot of tidying up. I sat down for the first time last night at my new desk, turned on my twin monitors and began tapping away.
No excuse now for not writing.
Ooops. Scary.

Sheds! Sheds! Sheds!
I read with interest an article in 'The Author' about writers who blog. Shoo Rayner, who also writes for children, admitted that he tends to discuss the on-going construction of his shed, but people still read his blog with interest.
Which makes me feel better about by electrician-related rantings (see archive).
Speaking of which, we managed to find another local electrician who came out and gave us a quote. I had a good feeling about him as soon as I opened the door – big tattooed Scotsman called Steve, and a thoroughly nice bloke. Even better, his quote was half what we had previously been told, so we said a resounding ‘Yes!’. And he’s due to come and do the work on Wednesday, which means that on Thursday I may finally have a place to work!
I know it’s wrong to get excited about sheds, but this means a lot…

Milestone
Sometime over the weekend my website passed 20,000 hits. Not a huge amount by global standards, I know, but not bad for a minor backwater of the internet. And only a small proportion of those hits came from me, so I guess there must be a few other people out there interested enough to look in.
Unless they were all looking for giant sharks, of course…
